Target intelligence / Profile preview
PSMB5 encodes the proteasome subunit beta type-5, a catalytic component of the 20S core proteasome complex. This protein exhibits chymotrypsin-like activity, cleaving peptide bonds after large hydrophobic residues. The proteasome complex degrades most intracellular proteins in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent manner via a nonlysosomal pathway and plays essential roles in regulating protein quality control, cell cycle progression, signal transduction, immune responses, and stress responses.
