Proteasome 26S subunit, ATPase 1 pseudogene 5 (PSMC1P5) is a pseudogene in the human genome, based on its annotation and sequence similarity to functional ATPase subunits of the 26S proteasome complex, such as PSMC1. Pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins; rather, they are regarded as genomic DNA sequences similar to active genes but are non-functional due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. Thus, PSMC1P5 does not participate in the essential ATP-dependent protein degradation performed by the 26S proteasome, described for its active homologs[3]. No role as a therapeutic target, no interacting drugs, and no known biomarker or disease associations have been established for this pseudogene.
