PSMC1P9 is classified as a pseudogene corresponding to the ATPase 1 subunit of the 26S proteasome. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are generally non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements necessary for expression. PSMC1P9 does not encode a protein product and is not known to produce a functional RNA with regulatory properties. Therefore, it is not considered a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs, is not used as a biomarker, and does not have an established role in disease. The functional, protein-coding counterpart is the PSMC1 gene, which encodes one of the six AAA-ATPase subunits that form the base of the 19S regulatory particle of the 26S proteasome complex. However, PSMC1P9 itself is not an active subunit of the proteasome. PSMC1P9 lacks evidence as a therapeutic target, is not protein coding, and does not play a direct role in cellular processes.
