Proteasome activator subunit 2 pseudogene 4 (PSME2P4) is a human pseudogene related to the proteasome activator subunit 2 (PA28 beta). While its parent gene, PSME2, encodes a component of the 11S proteasome activator involved in antigen processing and immune functions, PSME2P4 lacks protein-coding potential and is not known to produce a functional protein[1][7][8]. Pseudogenes like PSME2P4 may sometimes participate in cellular regulation, for instance by acting as decoys for microRNAs or by engaging in other gene expression regulatory mechanisms, but there is no specific evidence that PSME2P4 has such functions or disease associations at present[2][4]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or transcription factor.
