Overview

Proteasome activator subunit 3 interacting protein 1 (PSME3IP1), also known as NIP30 and FAM192A, is a nuclear protein that promotes the association of the proteasome activator complex subunit PSME3 with the 20S proteasome and helps regulate proteasome activity[1][3][4][7][10]. It inhibits PSME3-mediated degradation of selected proteasome substrates, possibly by affecting substrate diffusion into the proteasome’s catalytic chamber, and negatively regulates the accumulation of PSME3 in Cajal bodies while positively regulating the number of Cajal bodies in the nucleus[1][3][6]. PSME3IP1 is not currently considered a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs acting directly on it. The gene has been linked to some rare diseases but these associations are not well established[3].
