Overview

*Proteasome subunit alpha 2 pseudogene 2* (PSMA2P2) is a **processed pseudogene** derived from the functional proteasome subunit alpha type-2 gene (PSMA2). Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but have lost their coding or regulatory capability to produce functional proteins. PSMA2P2 is not translated into a functional protein, has no known biological activity, and is not recognized as a therapeutic target. Such pseudogenes are common in mammalian genomes due to retrotransposition events, and generally do not result in active molecules, disease relevance, or therapeutic interest[2].

02

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes are generally non-functional; they may sometimes play minor roles in gene regulation but this is not established for PSMA2P2)[2]
03

Disease associations

None (no established roles in disease for PSMA2P2; note, proteasome subunit alpha 2, the parent functional gene, does have roles in several pathways, but the pseudogene does not)[2]
