Proteasome subunit alpha 2 pseudogene 3 (PSMA2P3)

Overview

PSMA2P3 is a human pseudogene corresponding to the proteasome subunit alpha type-2 gene family. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically non-coding due to mutations, deletions, or lack of regulatory elements. PSMA2P3 does not encode a functional protein and does not participate in the formation or function of the 20S proteasome complex. Unlike PSMA2, which encodes one of the essential catalytic subunits of the proteasome involved in protein degradation and cellular homeostasis, PSMA2P3 serves no known biological function and is not considered a therapeutic drug target[1][7][8].
