Proteasome subunit alpha 6 pseudogene 3 (PSMA6P3) is a human pseudogene annotated on chromosome 21 and does not encode a functional protein. It is homologous to the active proteasome subunit alpha type-6 (PSMA6), which is part of the 20S proteasome core complex responsible for regulated protein degradation in cells. As a pseudogene, PSMA6P3 may possess potential regulatory functions at the RNA level, such as acting as a competitive endogenous RNA ("miRNA decoy") that influences gene expression of related coding genes, a property demonstrated for other pseudogenes in cancer or disease biology. However, there is currently no direct evidence linking PSMA6P3 to such regulatory activity, nor to any disease or therapeutic relevance. PSMA6P3 is not a druggable target, does not encode a receptor or enzyme, and lacks known roles in human pathophysiology. In summary, PSMA6P3 is a pseudogene and should not be considered a receptor, enzyme, or direct therapeutic target. While related pseudogenes can have biological roles via non-coding RNA regulation, no such functions have been experimentally validated or widely accepted for PSMA6P3.
