Proteasome subunit beta 3 pseudogene 1 (PSMB3P1)

Target
PSMB3P1
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene, processed pseudogene
01

Overview

PSMB3P1 is a processed pseudogene derived from the parental proteasome subunit beta 3 (PSMB3) gene, located in the human genome, and identified as a retrocopy in primates. While retrocopies like PSMB3P1 can occasionally acquire regulatory roles or neofunctionalization unrelated to their parent genes, the majority—including PSMB3P1—are considered non-functional and do not code for proteins. No evidence supports PSMB3P1 acting as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other traditional therapeutic target, nor is it implicated in drug interaction or disease by itself. Functional PSMB3 (not the pseudogene) encodes a core subunit of the 20S proteasome complex, which is central to protein degradation in cells, but the pseudogene PSMB3P1 does not participate in these processes.

Biological functions

No known protein-coding or direct biological function; potential regulatory or transcript-level effects are theoretical for some pseudogenes
03

Disease associations

No established disease role; parental gene PSMB3 is implicated in diseases, but no direct associations for the pseudogene
