Overview

Proteasome subunit beta 3 pseudogene 2 (PSMB3P2) is a human pseudogene, meaning it shares sequence similarity with the functional proteasome subunit beta 3 gene (PSMB3) but does not encode a functional protein and is not known to produce a functional RNA product[5]. Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate their protein-coding counterparts via non-coding RNA mechanisms (e.g., acting as microRNA decoys), but there is currently no evidence that PSMB3P2 performs such a function in humans[7]. It is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, and is not a recognized therapeutic target or biomarker in any disease context[5][7].

Other names
Proteasome (prosome, macropain) subunit, beta type, 3 pseudogene 2PSMB3P2
02

Biological functions

Possibly has non-coding RNA-mediated regulatory function, if transcribed; does not have protein product or direct enzymatic/receptor function
03

Disease associations

No direct evidence of involvement in disease; note that some pseudogenes may regulate their parental protein-coding genes via RNA-mediated mechanisms, but no such role is established for PSMB3P2 specifically
