Proteasome subunit beta type-9 (PSMB9), also known as 20S proteasome subunit beta-1i or LMP2, is a protein encoded by the PSMB9 gene in humans. It is a catalytic subunit of the immunoproteasome, a specialized form of the proteasome complex involved in immune function. PSMB9 exhibits chymotrypsin-like endopeptidase activity and is essential for generating peptides presented on MHC class I molecules to cytotoxic T cells. Its expression is induced by interferon-gamma and its function is crucial for immune surveillance and cellular adaptation to stress.
