PRMT5 is a type II protein arginine methyltransferase that catalyzes the symmetric dimethylation of arginine residues on both histone and non-histone proteins. It plays a critical role in transcriptional regulation, RNA splicing, ribosome biogenesis, DNA repair, cell cycle progression and proliferation, embryonic development, and stem cell pluripotency maintenance. Overexpression or dysregulation of PRMT5 has been linked to various cancers.
