PRMT3 is an enzyme that catalyzes the methylation of guanidino nitrogens on arginine residues in proteins. It performs both monomethylation and asymmetric dimethylation, classifying it as a type I protein arginine methyltransferase. Its primary substrate is the 40S ribosomal protein S2 (RPS2). It plays roles in ribosome biogenesis, post-translational modification, and gene expression regulation. Altered expression or activity has been associated with cancer progression and chemoresistance mechanisms.
