Overview

Protein chaperoning refers to the cellular processes mediated by molecular chaperones—specialized proteins that assist other proteins in achieving their correct three-dimensional structure, or conformation, during and after synthesis. These chaperones are essential for maintaining protein homeostasis (proteostasis) by ensuring proper folding, preventing aggregation of misfolded proteins, aiding in refolding after stress-induced denaturation, and facilitating the assembly or disassembly of protein complexes.
