Overview

Protein E7 is an oncoprotein encoded by high-risk human papillomaviruses (HPVs), such as HPV16 and HPV18. It disrupts normal cell cycle control by binding to and degrading retinoblastoma protein (pRb), leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation and cancer development. E7 also induces genomic instability, inhibits apoptosis, evades immune responses, and interacts with other viral proteins to promote oncogenesis. It is a target for therapeutic vaccines and small molecule inhibitors.
