Target intelligence / Profile preview
A protein expression inhibitor is a compound or molecule that interferes with the process of protein synthesis, thereby reducing or halting the production of proteins within cells. This inhibition can occur at various stages of gene expression, most commonly during translation, but also potentially at transcriptional or post-transcriptional levels. They have utility both clinically—as antimicrobials and anti-cancer agents—and experimentally for dissecting cellular processes dependent on de novo protein synthesis.
