Overview

Protein fem-1 homolog C (FEM1C) is a substrate-recognition component of the Cul2-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, specifically functioning in the DesCEND pathway that mediates the ubiquitination and degradation of proteins possessing a C-terminal degron, often an arginine motif. FEM1C is located in the cytosol and nucleus and plays a role in cellular protein quality control and turnover. FEM1C mutations have been associated with familial adenomatous polyposis and rare neurodevelopmental disorders. There are no approved drug therapies targeting FEM1C, and it is not currently considered a canonical drug target in clinical pharmacology.
