Target intelligence / Profile preview
Protein folding is the physical and biochemical process by which a linear polypeptide chain acquires its characteristic and functional three-dimensional (3D) structure. This 3D conformation is essential for the protein's biological activity. The process is primarily driven by the information encoded in the amino acid sequence itself (Anfinsen’s dogma), but it can also be influenced by environmental factors. Misfolded proteins can lead to loss of function or aggregation into toxic species implicated in diseases.
