Protein HEXIM2 (HEXIM2)

Target
HEXIM2
Molecular classification
Transcription regulator, 7SK small nuclear ribonucleoprotein complex component
01

Overview

Protein HEXIM2 is a transcriptional regulator encoded by the human HEXIM2 gene located on chromosome 17. It acts as a general inhibitor of RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription by being a component of the 7SK small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, where it regulates the activity of positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb). HEXIM2 exerts its function by binding to the 7SK snRNA and other protein partners, ultimately modulating transcriptional elongation processes necessary for gene expression. There is no strong evidence supporting HEXIM2 as a direct therapeutic target, nor clear association with disease pathogenesis or known drug interactions based on the currently available information.
