Overview

Protein kinase, Y-linked (PRKY) is a human gene on the Y chromosome, highly similar to the protein kinase, X-linked (PRKX) gene. PRKY is classified as a transcribed pseudogene because it has lost a coding exon, causing all transcripts to undergo nonsense-mediated decay and preventing the expression of a functional protein[1][4][5]. Abnormal recombination between PRKY on the Y chromosome and PRKX on the X chromosome is a frequent cause of XX males and XY females, implicating PRKY in some sex reversal syndromes[1][6]. Although gene expression or methylation status of PRKY may be relevant for cancer diagnostics, it is not considered a classical protein target for drugs or biologics[1][4][5][9].
