Protein Kinase A Regulatory Subunit Type I Alpha (RIα)

Target
RIα
Molecular classification
Regulatory subunit, Protein kinase A subunit, Scaffolding protein
01

Overview

The Protein Kinase A (PKA) RIα regulatory subunit controls PKA activity by binding to catalytic subunits and inhibiting them. Binding of cAMP to RIα releases the catalytic subunits, activating PKA. RIα also interacts with AKAPs to localize PKA to specific cellular compartments, enabling spatial-temporal control of signaling. Mutations in PRKAR1A are associated with Carney complex, a multiple neoplasia syndrome.
