Protein kinase C alpha (PKCα) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in diverse cellular signaling pathways. It is activated by calcium ions (Ca²⁺), diacylglycerol (DAG), and phosphatidylserine, leading to translocation from the cytosol to cellular membranes. PKCα regulates cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, motility/migration, inflammation, and cardiac contractility. Its effects are cell-type dependent, and selective targeting poses therapeutic challenges due to its ubiquitous expression and multifunctional roles.
