Target intelligence / Profile preview
Protein kinase C beta I (PKCβI) is an isoform of the protein kinase C (PKC) family, which are serine/threonine-specific kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol (DAG). It plays a central role in diverse cellular signaling pathways, with distinct expression profiles and functional roles, most notably in B-cell activation via the NF-kappa-B pathway, as well as apoptosis and endothelial cell proliferation. Several small-molecule inhibitors targeting PKCβ have been developed or are under investigation as therapeutic agents.
