Overview

Protein kinase C delta (PKCδ) is a member of the protein kinase C (PKC) family, which consists of serine/threonine kinases involved in regulating diverse cellular processes. PKCδ belongs to the "novel" subfamily of PKCs, which are characterized by their activation through diacylglycerol (DAG) but not calcium ions. It plays critical roles in cell growth, differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis, and participates in cellular responses to oxidative stress. Altered PKCδ function has been implicated in several human diseases including cancer, stroke, ischemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative disorders, and sepsis.
