Protein kinase C epsilon (PKCε) is a member of the protein kinase C (PKC) family, which are serine/threonine kinases involved in a wide range of cellular signaling pathways. PKCε is classified as a "novel" PKC isoform due to its calcium-independent but diacylglycerol/phorbol ester-dependent activation. It plays a key role in cardiac function, immune responses, neuronal signaling, and metabolism. Dysregulation of PKCε is implicated in various diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders.
Activation of PKCε by diacylglycerol (DAG) or phorbol esters, leading to phosphorylation of downstream target proteins.
