Protein kinase C gamma (PKCγ) is a neuron-specific member of the protein kinase C (PKC) family, encoded by the PRKCG gene. It plays critical roles in neuronal signal transduction pathways and is essential for synaptic plasticity processes such as long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). Mutations or defects are linked with spinocerebellar ataxia type 14 (SCA14), a neurodegenerative disorder.
