Target intelligence / Profile preview
Casein kinase II subunit alpha prime (CK2α′; gene: CSNK2A2) is a highly conserved serine/threonine protein kinase catalytic subunit that forms part of the tetrameric protein kinase CK2 holoenzyme along with alpha (CK2α) and regulatory beta (CK2β) subunits. It is ubiquitously expressed and regulates fundamental cellular processes including cell cycle progression, apoptosis, transcription, and cell survival. CK2α′ is encoded by the CSNK2A2 gene and possesses a catalytic domain with high homology to CK2α, though with distinct regulatory and structural properties. It plays key roles in oncogenesis and neurodegeneration, and has emerged as an important therapeutic target in drug development, particularly in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Pharmacological inhibition of CK2 activity, including CK2α′-specific roles, is actively being explored for disease treatment, though toxicity in normal cells remains a challenge[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
