Overview

Protein LEG1 homolog (LEG1, encoded by C6orf58) is a poorly characterized, secreted glycoprotein defined by the presence of the Domain of Unknown Function 781 (DUF781, also called LEG1 domain)[1][3]. First identified as liver-enriched in zebrafish, where it participates in liver development, its role in mammals and humans remains unclear[1][3]. In non-human species, related proteins have been implicated in processes including liver development, endoplasmic reticulum stress response, and antibacterial activity (platypus)[1][3]. In humans, only one ortholog (LEG1a) exists, and there are no comprehensive functional studies or disease associations to date[1][3][5]. Protein LEG1 homolog is not recognized as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other well-studied drug target, nor is it currently targeted by any medications or biologics in clinical use[1][3][5].
