Overview

Protein MAK16 homolog is an essential nucleolar RNA-binding protein required for ribosome assembly, particularly the maturation of 5.8S rRNA and large ribosomal subunit rRNA[1][2][3]. Its deficiency leads to cell cycle arrest and impaired ribosome production, especially demonstrated in yeast. In humans, altered MAK16 expression has biomarker potential in cancer and autoimmunity, but currently there is no evidence it serves as a therapeutic drug target[1][2][3].
