Protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) is a highly conserved and widely expressed serine/threonine-specific phosphatase in eukaryotic cells. It is responsible for catalyzing the dephosphorylation of more than half of all phosphoserine/threonine residues, making it one of the most significant protein phosphatases in cellular regulation. PP1 regulates diverse essential processes through forming distinct holoenzymes with over 200 known regulatory partners, allowing precise spatial-temporal control over dephosphorylation events within cells.
