Target intelligence / Profile preview
Protein phosphatase 1 regulatory inhibitor subunit 2 pseudogene 1 (PPP1R2P1) is classified as a pseudogene and is predicted to be involved in protein phosphatase inhibitor activity and possibly intracellular signal transduction[1]. However, as a pseudogene, it is generally not believed to encode a functional protein and is not recognized as a therapeutic target. There is no evidence to support a direct role in disease, drug interaction, or biomarker use[1].\nPPP1R2P1 is annotated by major databases as a non-coding pseudogene, not a functional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical drug target[1]. While the gene product is predicted (based on similarity) to potentially have protein phosphatase inhibitor activity, current evidence does not support a functional, druggable protein product. Pseudogenes such as PPP1R2P1 generally do not encode proteins and are not typically considered in therapeutic targeting, biomarker strategies, or pharmacological safety monitoring. If a functional role outside of classical pseudogene annotation were discovered in the future, this information could change. The current consensus, however, is that it is not a therapeutic target and the target name is not incorrect per se, but the gene itself is not functionally relevant for drug development or disease association[1].
