Overview

Protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 16A (PPP1R16A), also known as myosin phosphatase-targeting subunit 3 (MYPT3), is a regulatory protein that directs the activity of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1c) toward specific substrates such as myosin light chains. As part of the myosin light chain phosphatase complex (MLCP), PPP1R16A influences muscle contractility and intracellular motility by controlling the phosphorylation state of myosin light chains. Unlike other MYPT proteins, phosphorylation of PPP1R16A by protein kinase A leads to activation of PP1c, rather than inactivation. PPP1R16A is associated with certain diseases, most notably ovarian clear cell adenocarcinoma, and is involved in pathways like activation of cAMP-dependent PKA and beta-adrenergic signaling. No direct drug interactions or established clinical biomarkers are currently reported for this target.
