Regulatory subunits like PPP1R27 do not have catalytic activity themselves, but rather bind PP1 to direct its phosphatase activity toward specific substrates or cellular compartments[1][2][3]. PPP1R27 has also been reported as Dysferlin-interacting protein 1 (DYSFIP1), suggesting a specific role in muscle or membrane repair processes through interaction with the dysferlin protein. The function of PPP1R27 remains less well characterized in the primary literature compared to better-known PP1 regulatory subunits, but by analogy with other members of this family, it is expected to regulate the activity and targeting of PP1 in a tissue- or substrate-specific manner[1].
