Breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein (BRCA1)

Target
BRCA1
Molecular classification
Tumor suppressor, DNA repair protein, E3 ubiquitin ligase, Transcription factor
01

Overview

BRCA1 (Breast Cancer 1) is a tumor suppressor protein crucial for maintaining genomic stability. It participates in DNA repair, cell cycle regulation, transcriptional activation, and chromatin remodeling. Germline mutations in BRCA1 are strongly associated with increased risk for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers. It functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase via its RING domain, forms stable heterodimers with BARD1, and interacts with PALB2/BRCA2 to orchestrate homologous recombination-based DNA repair.
