Protein phosphatase 2C-like domain-containing protein 1 (PP2D1)

Target
PP2D1
Molecular classification
Enzyme (predicted and named for a catalytic domain), Protein phosphatase 2C (PP2C)-like family (structural superfamily, PPM; characterized by serine/threonine phosphatase activity)
01

Overview

Protein phosphatase 2C-like domain-containing protein 1 (PP2D1) is a human protein encoded by the PP2D1 gene (also known as C3orf48 or FLJ25449), consisting of 630 amino acids. Its nomenclature and predicted structure suggest it belongs to the PP2C-like serine/threonine protein phosphatase enzyme family, which are generally involved in dephosphorylation of other proteins to regulate signaling pathways. However, the specific biological roles, substrate specificity, tissue expression, and physiological significance of PP2D1 remain largely uncharacterized. Currently, there are no known drugs, disease links, or direct functional studies in humans attributed to this protein. Its classification follows the broader PP2C/PPM family which regulates diverse cellular processes including cell cycle and response to cell stress, but whether PP2D1 participates in these activities is unknown.

Mechanism of action

No known drug mechanisms of action, as the target is not recognized as druggable nor is it part of any characterized pharmacological pathway

03

Biological functions

Predicted: protein serine/threonine phosphatase activityGeneral PP2C-like phosphatase family: regulation of cellular signaling, cell cycle control, development, and stress responses (based on family function, not PP2D1-specific data)
04

Disease associations

No specific disease associations or roles reported for PP2D1 itselfBy analogy to other PP2C enzymes: may potentially be involved in cellular stress regulation or cell signaling, but no evidence links PP2D1 directly to diseases
05

Safety considerations

None reported. The function in humans is not well characterized and there is no evidence of it being therapeutically modulated
06

Interacting drugs

No known drugs reported to interact with PP2D1 in available databases or literature
07

Biomarkers

No established use as a biomarker for selection or monitoring in clinical or research settings
