Protein Phosphatase 3 Catalytic Subunit Alpha (PPP3CA)

Target
PPP3CA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Protein Phosphatase, Serine/Threonine Phosphatase, Calcineurin
01

Overview

Protein phosphatase 3 catalytic subunit alpha, also known as PPP3CA or calcineurin A alpha, is a calcium-dependent, calmodulin-stimulated serine/threonine protein phosphatase. It plays an essential role in the transduction of intracellular Ca²⁺-mediated signals and is a key component of the calcineurin complex. It catalyzes the removal of phosphate groups from serine and threonine residues in proteins. Requires both calcium ions and calmodulin for activation. Involved in several cellular processes including calcineurin-NFAT signaling cascade and regulation of gene expression. Mutations or dysregulation are associated with several diseases.
