Protein phosphatase 3 catalytic subunit beta (PPP3CB), also known as calcineurin A beta, is a calcium-dependent, calmodulin-stimulated serine/threonine phosphatase that is essential for intracellular Ca²⁺-mediated signal transduction[1][3]. It dephosphorylates and regulates several downstream substrates, including transcription factors such as NFAT and ELK1, influencing gene expression, lysosome biogenesis, and cell signaling. PPP3CB forms the catalytic core of the calcineurin complex, plays roles in the immune response, neural signaling, and muscle physiology, and is implicated in cardiovascular, renal, and neuropsychiatric diseases. It is directly targeted by immunosuppressant drugs such as cyclosporin A and tacrolimus[1][3][7].
