Target intelligence / Profile preview

Protein phosphatase 3 regulatory subunit B alpha (PPP3R1)

Target
PPP3R1
Molecular classification
Enzyme regulator (phosphatase regulatory subunit), Calcium-binding protein
01

Overview

Protein phosphatase 3 regulatory subunit B alpha (PPP3R1) is the regulatory subunit of the enzyme calcineurin, a calcium-dependent and calmodulin-stimulated protein phosphatase. PPP3R1 confers calcium sensitivity to the catalytic subunit, forming a functional phosphatase complex involved in various signaling pathways, including the calcineurin-NFAT signaling cascade important for immune, cardiac, and neural processes. Mutations or variants in PPP3R1 are implicated in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and dilated cardiomyopathy[1][2][3][5].
