PROS2P (Protein S pseudogene) is a non-functional genomic sequence that shares high sequence identity (97%) with the functional PROS1 gene encoding Protein S, a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein involved in blood coagulation[2][4]. PROS2P lacks exon 1 and is thought to be nontranscribed and incapable of encoding a functional protein[2]. Its presence in the genome can interfere with accurate genetic diagnosis of Protein S deficiency, as sequence similarity may lead to inappropriate amplification of the pseudogene during molecular genetic assays[2][4]. Like other pseudogenes, PROS2P is classified as "junk DNA" and does not contribute to cellular function, disease, or therapy[4].
