Protein shisa-like-1 (SHISAL1) is a predicted single-pass type I transmembrane protein found primarily in vertebrates, encoded by the SHISAL1 gene (also known as KIAA1644)[1][2][4][6]. It is part of the STMC6 superfamily, sharing an N-terminal cysteine-rich domain with six conserved cysteines and a proline-rich C-terminal region[2]. While the functions of SHISAL1 specifically remain largely uncharacterized, Shisa and Shisa-like proteins are hypothesized to function as scaffold or adaptor proteins at the membrane, likely involved in the regulation, sorting, or turnover of other membrane proteins, potentially including cell surface receptors[2][3][4][6]. There is no current evidence identifying SHISAL1 as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction partner, and no well-established links to disease roles or safety concerns[1][2][4][8].
