Overview

Protein shisa-like-2A (SHISAL2A, FAM159A) is a predicted single-transmembrane membrane adaptor protein belonging to the shisa-like (STMC6) family, marked by an N-terminal cysteine-rich domain (with six conserved cysteines) and a short C-terminal tail[2]. While the broader Shisa and Shisa-like protein family is evolutionarily conserved among metazoans and has roles in developmental signaling (notably Wnt and FGF pathway regulation) and as AMPA/GABA receptor auxiliary subunits in the nervous system, there is almost no direct experimental evidence about SHISAL2A's independent biological role, disease association, or therapeutic target potential in humans[1][2]. The family is characterized by motifs that might allow interaction with WW-domain–containing proteins such as E3 ubiquitin ligases, possibly regulating cell-surface protein sorting or degradation. SHISAL2A is not known to be a direct therapeutic target, to interact with approved drugs, or to serve as a biomarker or clinical target. Its molecular features, structure, and classification are mainly inferred from homology to other shisa-like proteins.
