Overview

Protein SSUH2 homolog (SSUH2) is a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein that likely acts as a chaperone, involved in *heat shock protein binding* and the regulation of unfolded protein binding activity. SSUH2 plays a critical role in odontogenesis, with mutations leading to autosomal-dominant dentin dysplasia type I—manifested by abnormal tooth development such as shortened roots, obliterated pulp cavities, and missing teeth. This function is thought to involve the regulation of key odontogenic genes (such as Dspp, Dmp1, Runx2, Pax9, Bmp2, and Dlx2). SSUH2 is not categorized as a canonical receptor, enzyme, ion channel, or drug target, and there are no confirmed drug interactions or safety concerns relevant to therapeutics. It is primarily of genetic and developmental interest and does not currently serve as a biomarker for drug response or patient selection.
