Protein-tyrosine kinases (PTKs) are enzymes that catalyze the transfer of a phosphate group from ATP to tyrosine residues of specific protein substrates. This phosphorylation event is a key regulatory mechanism in cellular signaling, affecting protein function, localization, and interactions. Dysregulation or mutation of PTK genes can lead to aberrant signaling implicated in cancer development/progression as well as other diseases such as diabetes and immune disorders.
