Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Mitochondrial 1 (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Phosphatase, Dual-specificity phosphatase
01

Overview

Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Mitochondrial 1 (PTPMT1) is a dual-specificity phosphatase localized to the inner mitochondrial membrane. It plays a critical role in cardiolipin biosynthesis by dephosphorylating phosphatidylglycerol phosphate (PGP). Deficiency of PTPMT1 leads to impaired mitochondrial respiration and has implications for metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. It is considered a potential therapeutic target, with efforts underway to develop specific inhibitors.

02

Mechanism of action

PTPMT1 inhibitors (in development) aim to modulate its phosphatase activity to restore cardiolipin levels and improve mitochondrial function.

03

Biological functions

Cardiolipin biosynthesisRegulation of mitochondrial respirationPhosphatidylglycerol phosphate dephosphorylation
04

Disease associations

Mitochondrial dysfunctionMetabolic disordersCardiovascular disease
05

Safety considerations

Inhibition of PTPMT1 could have broad effects on mitochondrial function, requiring careful assessment of potential off-target effects and toxicity.Given PTPMT1's essential role during development, long-term effects of its modulation need thorough investigation.
