Protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 20C, pseudogene (PTPN20CP) is a *non-coding genomic sequence* in Homo sapiens related by sequence homology to the protein tyrosine phosphatase, non-receptor type 20C gene family[1][3][5][7]. Like other pseudogenes, PTPN20CP arises from a duplication or retrotransposition of a functional gene but has acquired mutations (such as frameshifts or stop codons) that prevent it from producing a functional protein[6]. Most pseudogenes do not encode proteins and are non-functional, although some pseudogenes have been shown to regulate gene expression post-transcriptionally or act as decoys for microRNAs, potentially influencing cellular processes indirectly[2][6]. There is no evidence that PTPN20CP is a functional enzyme, receptor, or a direct contributor to disease or therapeutic action. Its primary significance is in genomic annotation and care must be taken to avoid assay interference due to sequence similarity with functional protein tyrosine phosphatases[6].
