Overview

Protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type C-associated protein (PTPRCAP) is a transmembrane phosphoprotein found predominantly in lymphocytes[1][4][5][7]. It physically associates with the CD45 (PTPRC) receptor, a critical protein tyrosine phosphatase that governs T- and B-cell activation in the immune system. PTPRCAP is required for the stable expression of CD45 and enhances its enzymatic activity, indirectly modulating Src family kinase phosphorylation and signaling events that drive cell proliferation, migration, and adhesion[1][2]. Genetic variation in PTPRCAP, particularly SNPs within its promoter region, has been linked to increased risk for diffuse-type gastric cancer by upregulating its expression and thereby enhancing downstream oncogenic signaling[2]. However, PTPRCAP itself is not an enzyme, receptor, or classical drug target, functioning as an accessory/regulatory component of the CD45 complex in lymphocyte signaling[1][6].
