Overview

Protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type F polypeptide-interacting protein alpha-4 (PPFIA4), also known as Liprin-alpha-4, is a scaffold/adaptor protein encoded by the PPFIA4 gene. It is a member of the liprin-alpha family, characterized by sterile alpha motif (SAM) domains and coiled-coil structures. PPFIA4 is involved in organizing presynaptic active zones in neurons, regulating cell adhesion dynamics, and facilitating signal transduction by interacting with receptor protein tyrosine phosphatases (especially the LAR-RPTP family). It modulates cellular responses to hypoxia and can affect metabolic pathways (e.g., glycolysis) in cancer cells. Its biological functions are implicated in synapse formation, cancer progression, cardiovascular remodeling, and cellular adaptation to environmental stress, but PPFIA4 is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target[1][4][5][6].
