Protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA, member 1 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; not an active enzyme, receptor, or similar)
01

Overview

Protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA, member 1 pseudogene is a genomic DNA sequence homologous to the functional PTP4A1 gene, but it does not encode a functional protein product. Functional protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA 1 (PTP4A1) is an enzyme involved in cell signaling, control of cell proliferation, migration, and cancer progression, but the pseudogene variant is generally transcriptionally silent and does not participate in these processes. Pseudogenes often arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and serve as evolutionary remnants without a direct role in cellular function[1][3][4]. The gene corresponding to ENSG00000258638 is explicitly a pseudogene, and not a therapeutic target. There is no evidence of protein expression, disease association, drug targeting, or biomarker utility for this pseudogene. The functional gene, PTP4A1, is a known enzyme and cancer-related target, but the pseudogene discussed here is not the same and should not be conflated with the active protein or gene[1][3].
