Overview

Proteinase-Activated Receptor 2 (PAR2) is a G protein-coupled receptor activated by proteolytic cleavage. Activation occurs through serine proteases like trypsin, exposing a tethered ligand that binds intramolecularly to activate the receptor. PAR2 is widely expressed and plays a role in inflammation, immune response, skin homeostasis, metabolism, cancer, and various inflammatory diseases. Signal termination occurs through internalization and lysosomal degradation.
