Proteoglycan 4 (PRG4)

Target
PRG4
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Proteoglycan
01

Overview

Proteoglycan 4 (PRG4), also known as lubricin, is a mucinous glycoprotein primarily recognized for its role as a boundary lubricant in articulating joints. It protects cartilage, modulates inflammation via TLRs, and binds neutrophils via L-selectin. Mutations or deficiencies in PRG4 are associated with joint abnormalities and arthropathies, making it a target for therapeutic intervention using recombinant forms to restore normal lubrication dynamics and anti-inflammatory properties.
